A long curve of magnificent ocean beach with a backdrop of Wilsons Promontory to the south characterises the township of Sandy Point.

First subdivided and developed from farming land and scrub in the 1960s by an enterprising real estate agent, Sandy Point now consists of an interesting mixture of beach houses and permanent residences in a wide range of architectural styles.
The Sandy Point General Store sells everything from petrol and the local paper to fresh fruit and light bulbs.
Next door is the Sandy Point  Café see up-to-date photos of surf conditions and weather report at Sandy Point Cafe Homepage.
On the foreshore is the new and quite dramatic Waratah Beach Surf Life Saving Club building, with its curving brick walls and roofline. The clubhouse is fully-licensed and is open on weekends from noon to midnight.

Just down the road is Shallow Inlet, a broad expanse of still water that is known internationally as one of the world's best windsurfing places. It is an ideal family beach and not too bad at all for fisherfolk.
